Monday update

Things here are moving along according to plan, although I'm having a slight setback with my medications. I went back to the hospital lab yesterday to have blood work drawn because my tummy injection sites are bleeding. The needles are really small, and I'm meticulous about the technique, so this doesn't make much sense. I'm also starting to have other bleeding and bruising issues, so I was hoping that the pill form of the blood thinners (coumadin) has kicked in so I could stop shooting up twice a day. But no such luck. I'm really thinned out in one direction on the injections, but my INR value is only a 1.2 (it needs to be at least a 2.0 before I can dump the injectable sauce). Meh. They've now upped the coumadin, so now I'm bruised, bleeding, and feel like I have the flu. But better than being dead from a blood clot! Yay! (Help me out. Trying to find humor here). Another side note: I will never understand injectable street drugs. Never. But I am comforted to know that if I ever develop diabetes, I can in fact give myself insulin.

My stats exam is roughly 24 hours away. My previously-mentioned jerk prof has not replied to any of the emails that Scott and I sent him about being in the hospital, so I've decided to say "screw it" and move forward and take the test. (Another note: hate "online learning." HATE.) I'm hoping that I can do well nonetheless and just put the stupid class behind me. Really, I don't have the time or patience for an extension, but it would have been nice for him to at least email back to say "sorry you're in the hospital, you can have another day on the project that's due the day of the final exam!" Jackass.

Lastly on the grump meter, I think the seriousness of all of this is finally kicking in and I'm starting to realize how lucky I really, really am. Over 20 clots through the heart and no heart attack? Phew. But now I'm having really morbid thoughts, like while I'm in the shower I'll imagine dropping dead and having Scott come home and finding me. Sheesh. Yes, I have made a social work follow-up appointment for this week. I know it's a totally normal feeling to have after have a life-threatening illness, but still? Cwwweeeeppy.

OK! Ending on a positive note! This has left me the chance to order our guest book and table designators today, as well as finally get back to the rehearsal dinner caterer. So that is good. And I am spending more time with the kitty cats, who are alternating between being totally endearing and driving me totally nuts. :-)

Congratulations on sticking around. And good job! Lots of people you know must certainly appreciate it -- Scott especially.

"Online learning" truly sucks. It's a scam by schools to get lots of tuition for minimal hassle in dealing with students.

Good luck with your exam and your blood stuff.

I'll second that -- hope you're OK, Cara. Thinking of you.
