Subject to change
Change is good. Regime change, sock change, underwear change, all happy. But I hate "subject to change" when it refers to costs associated with our wedding. Case in point.
We received a letter yesterday from the church to tell us that non-member weddings are going up 53% in cost for next year. FIFTY-THREE PERCENT. So take our original cost, add 53% of that cost to the original figure, and now you have our new charge. Suddenly the church went from being a nice, affordable option to a WTF???
Granted, by knowing ahead of time we can budget for it, but that's not the point. The point is that a 53% increase in one year is effing ridiculous! Grrr. I've been mulling it over and I think we should get married there anyway, because it's close to the reception site, doesn't require much, is indoors (important year-round in Seattle!) and is a nice location. But since our faith traditions combined are Protestant/Jewish/Catholic/atheist/agnostic, a church isn't important. Crap. Grrr. At least I haven't sent out the save the date cards yet.

Did you guys sign a contract with them? They shouldn't be allowed to change the price after a contract has been signed. Oof. Stuff like that is not cool.
We signed the contract, and in the contract it says that prices may go up. But when I asked about it, the wedding coordinator said that the most would be 10%. And that is not the case. Grr.
Oh boy. Um, hi ::::tentatively pokes head around De-Lurking Corner of Lurkiness::: Angie here. You commented with a very helpful link when I saw those kids getting the crap beaten out of them at that McDonald's in Maryland, and maybe this will be helpful to you.
There's a distinct possibility that the wedding coordinator's statement that price increases would not exceed 10% constitutes a verbal contract. Therefore you and Scott would not be obligated to pay more than 10% of the fee stated in the original contract. I have a lot of experience with this sort of thing with my wedding photography work.
My sister and brother-in-law are both attorneys who have advised friends of mine, see above: Alissa, re: the worst oil change of her life. A couple of emails advising her what to say and do, and Alissa got a something like a thousand dollars back.
That was a different situation, which didn't involve a contract, and anyway, you may have lawyer friends of your own who can help you out; I don't know. You sound like you have a lot going on- I've been there with the IBD and the colostomies- fun! but if you want me to pass on their email addresses, let me know. I gave you my email address once before, but it's gypsypeach@aol.com. Um... Okay.
Thanks for the suggestion!
