Blogging the debate
9:37-edited to add: I think Obama was ahead on the economy. I think McCain was slightly ahead on foreign policy, or it was a draw. Let me add about the plastic surgery note--on the FACE. Holy Jesus, age gracefully. Botox is not your friend. :-) From reading the feedback in different places, it seems like most people think either it was a draw or Obama came out slightly ahead. On to next Thursday's VP debate! (Which I think will be a slaughter. Sorry, Sarah).
7:36-Well, it's wrapping up. Overall, the usual barb-barb. I'm not pleased that McCain stumbled, but so did Obama. Hmm. Overall, I think Obama did better, but only by maybe 10%. One other thing--seriously, Cindy McCain scares the crap out of me. Women out there, take note. You do not need plastic surgery, no matter what. It doesn't always work.
7:23-Oy. Obama's right. Kissinger has said that we should meet without preconditions with other countries, and Kissinger is one of McCain's advisers. McCain called Obama out on preconditions. Again, who prepped McCain for this debate? Or didn't prep McCain for this debate? And would someone please get the guy a tissue since he's sniffling?
7:10-I like what McCain is saying about Iran. Obama keeps interrupting McCain and McCain caves. What gives? Why does he keep letting him do that? McCain keeps bringing up Iran-Israel to try to win the Jewish vote. Oy. Not a good idea. That's pretty transparent.
6:54-Obama is not doing as well as he could be. He needs to be more aggressive in coming back. Again on the McCain campaign front--someone needs to do something about the dentures; they're whistling when he talks. Why hasn't anyone said anything to him about that? It's so easily fixable, but so obvious. He needs to fire his debate preppers, they are an embarrassment to a serious campaign. Between this and the conservative commentators rallying for Palin to step down, I'm feeling bad for him.
6:48-The usual back and forth so far. Who is running McCain's campaign? After working on campaigns (Dem and Rep), I have to say he either hasn't been prepped well or isn't thinking well on his feet. Man, whoever let him make that suspending campaign-go-to-DC stunt earlier this week needs to be dragged out into the street and shot. Not good, especially given the beating he's taken in the press. So far Obama's doing better in responding, and he's come out more aggressive. And this is McCain's specialty, foreign policy. Whew.

I thought Obama did really well (as naturally I would). Throughout a lot of the debate, McCain had this weird tight-lipped smile and I couldn't decide if he was really pissed and trying to hide it, or if he was making an attempt at looking breezy and laid-back. Either way: FAIL.
RE: Cindy McCain - there is good plastic surgery, and there is scary plastic surgery. Anything on your face, you risk ending up looking like an alien or like you tied your ponytail a couple of notches too tight. I, for one, fully intend to get the booby lift and tummy tuck after I'm done having babies. But you know, that's not quite as obviously visible as the face work. Ms. McCain definitely needs to skip her next Botox appointment. Or five.
