Blech, barf, retch

That would sum up how I feel about the Republican's VP choice, Sarah Palin. A bub I know from work stopped by my office on Friday, and here's how the conversation went:

"You must be happy."
"Why?"
"He chose a woman. And a feminist, to boot."
I nearly fall out of my chair.
"What? Why are you looking at me that way?"
"Sarah Palin is about as much of a feminist as Phyllis Schlafly is."
"Oh, come on. She works out of the home, she's powerful, she's done good things for Alaska, and she has kids."
"To me, feminism is allied with being progressive, and Sarah Palin is not progressive in any way, shape, or form. Period."
"But she's a woman."
Stare, blink, stare.
"Huh. I guess that isn't that important to you."
"I think Sarah Palin is about as allied with the typical woman's concerns as is Dick Cheney."
"I think you should be happy a woman is going to be in the White House in some form."
I bonk my head against the desk repeatedly, quietly muttering to myself, "no, no, no." Visitor backs out of office, wondering how I got so weird. Fin.

It's so condescending to think that Hillary's supporters will now support Palin just because she's a woman - the belief that women supported Hillary because of her gender and not because of her politics.

Ugh.

It's revolting. I have gotten at least 5 different "huhs?" as people are confused that I don't support Palin although we both have Fallopian tubes. Give me a break.

Obviously John McCain thinks that all women are interchangeable. After all, he exchanged his first wife for a much younger model years ago.

My fear is that there are some stupid, ignorant women out there who are going to vote for McCain now just because they want a woman VP, nevermind how completely awful and anti-woman she is.

Your co-worker is right on one thing: there WILL be a woman in the white house, and hopefully her name will be Michelle Obama.

It's funny that McCain could actually get elected with Palin as his running mate... at some other time. It doesn't take much to be a successful Republican. But this year it's obviously going to be quite different. It's unfortunate that McCain has to go out on such a low note though. For a time, he championed some sensible causes.

Yep...I was listening to Talk of the Nation on my way to work and some 20 something conservatives were calling in to say what a "daring" and "dynamic" choice she is. What the hell? And it is absolutely insulting that Voldemort and Dolores Umbridge think that D.U. being the pick for VP is in any way progressive just because she's a woman. Puke.

Voldemort and Dolores Umbridge! HAHAHAHA! Kel, that's perfect.

If you haven't seen this sketch from the Daily Show, you have to check it out. Samantha Bee satirically addresses this issue, claiming to want to vote Republican because Palin's on the ticket, and they're both "Vagina-Americans."

I knew if I came to Caffeine Girl, this exact post would be here. Could be because I've known Cara for twenty-six years.

And not only did John McCain trade his first wife for a younger model, she's a much wealthier model as well.
