Kitties, not kiddies
Sorry that it's been a long time since I rapped at ya, y'all. I just got back from lovely Philly, where I spent 36 hours throwing a baby shower for mah best buddy. On the way there, I was ruminating about how so many of my friends are either getting married now, or recently have gotten married, or are having/recently have had babies. Which made me think, when might we have a kid?
The answer, it turns out, is not for a looong time. This was emphasized for me during the baby shower. I present to you Cara's list of Oh, You Are So Ready to Not Have a Baby.
Situation #1:
The expectant mom (EM) opens up a baby sling/carrier, complete with pockets. The sling is safe for babies up to 30 lbs. Your thought?
a) Cute sling, oh my Gawd, the baby will be so cuuuute in it!
b) That's a pretty convenient carrier, with the pockets for keys and all.
c) God, I could totally stick the Siamese in there and he'd shut up for hours. I need to see if Petsm@rt makes one. I could just get that one for the fatty.
Situation #2:
EM opens up a Baby E!nstein playset, replete with toys that make noise and an aquarium theme. Your thought?
a) I can feel the fetus's IQ rising from here.
b) I bet that's a bitch to clean spit-up off of.
c) Man, why don't they make something like that for my cantankerous fat tabby? Although I bet a dead squirrel toy would gross people out. Which reminds me, I should totally get one of those yuppie-guilt activity DVDs for the cats.
Situation #3:
Cute baby at the shower gurgles, burps, then begins to wail. You think:
a) Aw, poor munchkin needs a nap.
b) Poor mom needs a break.
c) Poor me needs a Cosmo.
Since I leaned to/answered C in all of those situations, this shower certainly affirmed to me that although I like kids, my cats are more than enough for me for now. Still, the kid stuff is really cute. I might have to start dressing Sampson up in some onesies to gain more crazy cat lady cred.
Off to study for tomorrow's anatomy exam. Y'all have a good Wednesday, and I'll have more Guatemala pics as soon as this exam is over and I get through Friday's med chem exam.

Ha -- the answer to No. 3 made me chuckle. I was thinking all of those things at the same time on the subway yesterday, when I was allowing the cranky baby behind me to play with my hair... which, now that it's written out, sounds weirder than it actually was at the time...
Word.
Petsmart sells a front-carrier sling type thing for cats. And yes, I occasionally put Fred in it, which- shockingly- he tolerates. I mostly do it when he visits the nursing home. People can pet his head, he's secure, but somehow he doesn't get that he's being held, which he hates.
They have those strollers, now, too, for cats, but that's... Well, for me, anyway, I draw the line at a pet stroller. Not happening.
I have thought about getting a pet stroller, but I have a fear that Casper will claw his way out anyway, jump out, and be creamed by a Mack truck in front of me. We actually do have those in our neighborhood, so it's not a totally neurotic vision. But admittedly it's a mostly neurotic vision. :-)
