Funny, stress

Sampson is sick again. It's been what, a few days that he's been well? Rrrgggh. I'm also stressing about the family coming into town--I'm happy to see them, but I want the visit to be perfect (I can't believe I'm pushing 30 and I haven't figured out that nothing is perfect) and our place is a craphole that needs a lot of cleaning.

Thank you to all of y'all who emailed, called, or commented with wedding song suggestions. It has to go onto the back burner until the grad application, quarter, and holidays are over, but it's very helpful to have some ideas! So thanks!

Now, bring on the funny. I went to yoga yesterday, and we were working on thigh and pelvic loops. We tried handstands. This is amazing to me, because I've never done a handstand. Not as a kid, not as an adult, never. We were partnered up, and my partner, a serious yoga veteran, gave me the most Namaste smile ever. "Just bring your shoulder blades up on your back, walk your feet in, and kick up!" he said with a broad smile. I said, "OK!" but what I envisioned was my heel flying into his nicely manicured teeth, bringing lots of pain to him and shame to me.

In the end, I didn't complete the handstand. I was too scared and too nervous. But I tried, and now I'm going to practice at home with Scott, so when the time come I'll be ready to kick some yoga butt. Which is contrary to the ideals of anusara, but whatever. I will leave y'all now with the quote of the day, from my faboo yogini most wonderful teacher supreme: Let your butt be luscious, like a tropical flower. Good advice, indeed! Have a luscious butt day, y'all.

My family isn't coming until freakin' Christmas, and I'm already stressed about how I'm going to make sure that everything is perfect. Oh, and I'm almost 31. I'm not sure that we ever outgrow the need for parental approval.

Do they serve the yogi tea? That is worth the pain and occasional humiliation that yoga brings. Where I live is pretty groovy, and there are a lot of yoga places. I walked into one and asked the small, serene, skinny gal at the desk if they had any fat people that do yoga. (It was hard not to crack up because she was falling all over herself trying to be diplomatic while telling me, that yeah--lots of fatties!) She said that they welcomed people of all ages, sizes, and abilities.

I said, yeah, but do all the people look like you or are there some that look like me?

Then she whipped out a 'Yoga for Bigger Bodies' pamphlet and I knew I was in for a treat.

I am so impressed that you are practicing the handstand at home. I am such a beginner and so *not* in shape yet that someone would get hurt. :)

Go, luscious flower!

P.S. I ordered Thanksgiving from the store. No stress there--just Rock Paper Scissors to see who picks it up!!
