Jessie

Scott's family dog died yesterday. She died during surgery; the blessing is that she just went to sleep and didn't suffer.

Jessie was a big, sweet goofball, affectionately dubbed "Messy Jessie." She's the only dog I've ever met who figured out she was getting Christmas presents.

The first time I met Jessie, we were up in New Hampshire for July 4th. Scott's parents brought her up to the lake. Scared of fireworks, she buried herself under one of the beds as much as she could. I remember petting her rump that stuck out from under the bed, and putting my hand under the bed for her to rest her head in my hand. She fell asleep for a few minutes with an adorable snore.

Goodbye, sweet baby. We will miss you.

Oh man. Jessie was, indeed, an expert drooler. I remember when she was a puppy and she used to hide in the bushes by the front door. She'd wait until you rang the doorbell and then bound out of her hiding spot all WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF.

I'm officially revealing my Crazy Pet Lady side here... Dogs communicate their love for us without words, so I like to think they can feel ours for them, even when we can't be with physically with them to say it. Safe passage to the rainbow bridge, Jessie.

Oh my gosh... she was such a great (and drooling) dog -- I remember her gigantic tail sweeping letters off the Scrabble board in the living room, and her bounding around all "what'd I do?"

So sorry for you guys.

Thank you Cara for writing such nice things about Jessie. It made me cry, but it also made me feel better to read everyone's memories of her. I will miss her very much.
