Totally true!

The scene: a St@rbucks in Seattle. Our tired student heroine enters stage right, accompanied by an anatomy textbook and a large mocha (non-fat, of course). She sits at a table across from a table occupied by a mother and child. Noticing the young age of the kid, the student hastily puts away the male anatomy dissection drawings in her course pack. She notices that the 5-or-so-year old girl appears to be drinking a tall vanilla latte given the writing on the side of the cup, and wonders to herself when kids started drinking coffee.

ACTION!

Mom: so what do you want to do tomorrow?
Daughter: I'm not sure.
Mom: we should decide soon.
Daughter (rolling eyes): I don't know. Leans onto table with elbows.
Mom: well, okay, but-
Daughter, interrupting: Mommy, can't you be quiet so I can relax and enjoy the music? I've had a long day!
Student, now obviously eavesdropping, shoots mocha out of nose.

Fin.

I'm not going to judge the mom who gives her kindergartener coffee, since I'm sure that at some point in the not-distant future, Cate will start demanding sips of my diet coke, and then wanting her own. It's the same thing we did with my mom and her precious Tab.

Gotta say, though, I do sort of love the little girl's snark. I mean, it wouldn't be funny if it came from MY kid. But I'm guessing that she's mimicking something she's heard. Maybe Daddy often tells Mommy to be quiet? Hmmm...
