All fear the raisin
I love sweets. Love to bake, love to consume them. You name it, I like it: peanut butter cookies, cheesecake, brownies. But there's one thing I really don't like, and that would be the much feared and dreaded oatmeal raisin cookie.
Hate.
Today I had 4 hours of classes chased with a 3-hour seminar, followed by 2 hours of presentations. During the seminar, one of our profs passed out a pile of cookies that she had brought in. They smelled wonderful, were big and lovely, and were delicious-looking. Most importantly, I could see my favorite type-a toffee/peanut butter blend-poking out at me, saying, "come take a bite out of this, Cara!"
The plate came my way and I grabbed the cookie. Oh, delicious cookie, come to me... blech. What the hell?
Turns out that when the platter went by, I grabbed an oatmeal effing raisin cookie. Much to my dismay, I saw my friend Dan grab the delicious, most favored cookie. So at this point, I'm sitting there with a pile of blech (yes, I should be grateful! free cookie! yum! people are starving somewhere! but I'd rather eat a carob wheat germ gefilte fish cookie, that's how much I hate oatmeal raisin!) and my prof smiles at me. I smile back and take a big, heaping bite of cookie.
Shudder.
I could feel the raisin in the back of my teeth, grinding and mashing and releasing its disgusting raisiny taste. I just kept chewing. And chewing. And chewing. Finally, my friend next to me poked me and whispered sideways, "are you okay?" Then I realized I had been chewing the same piece for a long time and was, uh, kinda loud. I smiled, nodded, and as I was going to whisper back, I began to subtly choke on the cookie.
Smooth.
So that was my day in class. Moral of the story: don't eat if if you can't stand it, even if you're trying to be polite.
Hate.
