Short update
Sammy's doing well. We met with the oncologist today. We discussed systemic versus localized disease. When we did, she discussed options with me. I'm all about cost-effectiveness (in certain situations), so I asked her, if Sammy's cancer is widespread, e.g. multiple myeloma, how many months/years would we be adding to his life? The answer was 10-12. If the cancer is localized, with no evidence of spread, then what's the amount we would be adding?
Her response? Cure.
I backed away for a bit and looked at her. I asked her what she meant, looking down at Sammy so she couldn't see my face. I've been crying a lot lately over what I assume is Sammy's imminent death, and frankly, I don't need to share that with anyone but my husband and my closest friends.
She told me that with radiation, plasma cell tumors are highly responsive, thus she expects a complete cure for Sammy. So he can live a normal life span.
I don't know what to think, because up to this point I've been resistant to any interventions. Now, I'm not so sure.

Wow -- what a crazy ride with such difficult choices. Thinking of you guys.
This is rough. My sister's cat had a bone tumor on her leg, which required amputation. (No chemo or radiation, as far as I can remember.) She adjusted pretty well to having 3 legs. Then a year later, the cancer came back & she had to have her put to sleep. That sucked.
Sounds like you guys have a lot of options to weigh. Might be time for a pros & cons list. Good luck to you.
