Migraine drama

Ugh. I get migraines quite frequently, and have for the past few years. I started getting them when I was 17, which got me a trip to a MRI machine and neurologist, plus some decent painkillers. For the past year or so I've been getting migraines about three times a week, but usually only one with aura.

But last night? Whoa Nellie, I got a migraine that hit it all out of the ballpark. Worse than the one that sent me to the ER last July. Man.

It started when I was at the shelter. I noticed that I lost vision in my right eye. Noticed is probably the wrong word, but I don't have a better one. After having these things for years, sometimes I notice I'm blind in one eye. Ho hum, life goes on, get me some Amerge.

I gathered up my stuff and left the shelter, since usually that means I won't be able to see soon. I got home and Scotto made us some dinner. During dinner I realized, er... I can't feel my right arm. Nope, make that right side. I've had numbness before, but this was pretty overwhelming and scary. We paged my internist, and when she called back she told me to take a certain medication of many (Cara's Migraine Pharmacy is open for business, folks, step right up!) and then go to the ER in two hours if I was still numb, because I could be having a stroke.

Awesome. That is exactly what I needed to hear.

I took the meds and they started to kick in. I still felt funny but could move, could talk, and could see out of both eyes. Bonus. I had a hard time sleeping, but managed to fall asleep around 4 am.

This morning Scott woke up and kissed me goodbye. I went to get out of bed and realized, deeerrrrr... not happening. My left leg is numb. I called my internist back, who set me up with a MRI and an emergency neurology appointment. I went in for the scan this afternoon, and thank goodness it's negative. That rules out a major brain bleed and it's not ah tum-ah. (Sorry, I had to say it. HAD to).

But my leg is still numb. I'm on prednisone now in a whopper way for the next 3 days to try to break it, and then I go in Thursday morning for more tests/chatting/medical bills. I also have more painkillers, but decided that since they make me feel sick I'm going to skip them for a glass of red wine and then bed. Here's hoping I get the feeling back in my leg soon, because this really sucks.

Good grief. I hope you feel better soon, or that the docs can figure out what's going on and treat it. That sounds scary. :(

Good grief is right...feel better, Cara! Keep us posted.

I took the Jersey quiz. I am 77% New Jersey, despite having been there two weeks ago. Not only do I know *what* a fat sandwich from a grease truck is, I had a boyfriend who had one named *for* him, hence "The Fat Brian."

The Fat Brian consisted of breaded chicken tenders, french fries, mozarella sticks, covered with melted cheese, served open face on a hard roll. Yum.
