The one where I admit I'm bonkers
Tonight we were driving home when I realized we were behind a truck that had a German shepherd chained in the flatbed. But it's a flatbed. Not a pickup. No walls on either side of the flatbed, and no protection for the dog. Take a turn too fast, and this dog could be tossed aside off the end of the flatbed and strangled to death. I looked keenly at the truck and without looking away said to my husband, "want to come with me to steal a dog?"
While we didn't steal the dog, I will admit I had fantasies of freeing the dog while beating the owners upside the head with the shotguns above the dog in the back of the cab. You see, I don't care much for people, but I do love animals. A lot. Irrationally so.
Does it make sense? Nope. I'm not a vegetarian, I wear leather, and I work in an industry that primarily tests on rodents (contrary to popular belief, not so much testing on the canines or the bunnies). A bit hypocritical? Yep.
But when I see an animal being mistreated, or tied up in the rain, or shivering, I see red. Screw humans; give me animals any day. This is why I spend my free time cruising Petfinder for special-needs animals.

Another 5 years, I'll be looking like this. I think my diagnosis might be Munchhausen-by-proxy-by-feline.

That story absolutely infuriates me. I feel you on the animal thing as evidenced by our adoption of stray and/or neglected and/or abandoned dogs. I'd bring home more of them if I could.
p.s. Love your inclusion of the crazy cat lady--she always makes me laugh!
