Some (good?) news

I have a neurologist appointment tomorrow morning to discuss my MRI results. The nurse called today and said that I have "multiple spinal deformities," so I did the sane, rational thing in response: I freaked out. They faxed the report to me and it doesn't seem as bad as it sounded. Good points: bone marrow is normal and no tumors were found, so spinal cancer and spinal lymphoma are out in the cervical and thoracic regions.

Iffy/bad news: a disc in my spine is screwed up, which is pressing on part of my spinal cord. Maybe that's causing the problem, but that section is in my thoracic spine, which doesn't control my legs. So that can't be causing my leg numbness. I also have degenerative disc disease throughout my spine, which a lot of people have, but it's pretty extensive for someone my age. A lumbar spinal MRI is in my future (hello tube! nice to see you for the third time in three weeks!), and probably a bone density test since a lot of DDD in a young'un may indicate osteopenia. If the lumbar MRI is positive then this may be the cause of the numbness, but it may be that they've come across something else and still haven't found the cause. Meh.

God, Cara, this sucks, I'm so sorry. I hope it turns out to be one of those "no big deal, just take this little pill and you'll be magically all better" medical conditions. Fingers crossed for you.
