Luck of the Irish

Yay St. Patty's Day, the one day of the year that I feel normal wearing my shamrock socks! The rest of the year I'm just silly or low on clean laundry.

I am feeling like quite the lucky lass today, because I received decent news from my neurologist yesterday. First off, nothing super scary is going on, and by that I mean no neurological cancer or Lou Gehrig's disease. THAT is very good news and I might actually get some sleep now!

The neuro says that I am having complex migraines. The good thing is that I can probably prevent it from getting worse by taking medication everyday. The bad thing is that I've already managed to incur some brain issues which can be seen on a MRI. 13 years of intense migraines will do that to you. He also noted that I am at higher risk for a stroke because of my migraine history, and if I have another attack like I had last week, then I have to high-tail it to the ER immediately for a MRI to be sure that I'm not having a stroke. In the big scheme of things, it's manageable and not terminal, so I can't complain!

No development on the MS front. My symptoms could be from MS, but the initial scans are clear for plaques. So if I have no recurrences and no plaques in the next 2 years, then I don't have MS. Many patients do have MS symptoms for years before getting a formal diagnosis, so I have to wait and see if anything else happens.

Now, getting used to the migraine pills will be interesting. Why? Because (gasp!, shock!) no wine. I love me my wine, and starting tonight I'm off the sauce until I get situated on my medication. Oh well. Given the choice between medicine that will help my brain and lower my risk of stroke versus a glass of wine, I'll take the former. Unless it's a crappy day at work, it's 5 pm, and it's happy hour, then I have to think about it. :-)

I hope you all have a wonderful St. Patty's Day, and stay away from the green PBR!
